Pet Name: Thor
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd
Weight: 80-90 lb
Funny Story: His sister has always gotten the best of him in the past. He wanted to come up onto the small bed with me and his sister Helga, but no room. He left the room, returned with a cookie which he placed on the floor in front of the bed. He then "left the room". Helga sat up on the bed, and finally could wait no longer to get the cookie. As Helga leaped from the bed, Thor came tearing into the room, sliding on the hardwood floor, grabbing the cookie, and jumped into the bed, all before Helga could figure out what had happened. She sat looking at him, while he slowly ate the cookie, her head cocked to one side, stunned that Thor, the stupid dog she had always bested, got the best of her. I wish I had a video of it.
Sleeping quarters: Next to me in bed,
Bio: Thor and Helga are brother and sister. Their mother was a pure breed Black German Sheppard, the father a "normal Sheppard". He has been from birth a very nervous dog, afraid of most things, but has grown in so many ways. He loves "crumb munchers" (kids), and loves his cookies

New Pictures
 1/11/2008 10:15:41 PM
I now have ten high intensity LED lights on each backpack. My little buddies are now ready to be seen during our nightly walks. As I had said before you can see these lights for over one mile and they are powered by a rechargeable 12 volt cordless drill battery. I am going to switch the 12 volt out to the 18 volt battery; ones that are old and will not run the cordless tools for very long, but last several hours running these lights. Both of my dogs have never been socialized and Thor is still very nervous around people and other dogs, so I enrolled him (us) in a dog training class. He is very well trained, but we are only there to make friends with other dogs. I just placed up a few pictures of my dogs and a few pictures of the dogs wearing the backpack. Take care and have safe time walking! T

Thor's Training Update
 1/24/2008 12:26:37 PM
Since Thor is already trained, the trainer used Thor to demonstrate a sit and stay. He allowed her to take control of him and did very well. He then took some more baby steps, allowed a Pug to sniff him, and started to play with another German Sheppard. He is just starting to get socialized with not just dogs but other people. For months I have been taking Thor and Helga everywhere possible, to get used to new places, new smells, and new people. I hope that we can overcome his problems. From Thor and Helga

Furminator
 1/25/2008 2:54:06 AM
At one of the training sessions with Thor someone brought in his Furminator. I had previously completed research about the brush and found many mixed results. I tried it and was very impressed with the brush. I bought one at the local vet center for $35 bucks. In the past I would have to vacuum the bed several times a day, even after brushing the dogs up to four times a day with a slicker brush, a fine comb, and an under coat rake. Plus I would vacuum the dogs, but still dog hair would coat the bed. In these three days, there is almost no hair on the bed, the amount of hair floating around is nominal. Helga doesn't pant nearly as much as she did and their coats have more of a glow to them. You might want to try one out. See if you can get your hands on one before spending up to 60 bucks for one. But if you have a dog that sheds, this might be worth the money. Thor and Helga
