I registered her with all the agencies, but no one came to claim her. | | Tricks: | very fast runner |

| Pet Name: | Moose | | Age: | 4 years | | Gender: | Male | | Breed: | Chihuahua | | Weight: | 8-10 lb | | Funny Story: | Within the hour he had made himself comfortable in my bed, and was making it quite clear he wanted no part of a kennel to sleep in. Since he had been an only dog, he didn't understand how to play with other dogs, but these days, he plays with my two wherever possible. | | Sleeping quarters: | Inside the pillowcase | | Bio: | Moose was turned in to the pound by his owners who claimed he was a biter. He was immediately released to our custody, and delivered to my home for foster care. |

I picked him up, held him close, and tears flowed down his face. He's a very sweet little boy, and I was able to rehome him very quickly with some friends down the block. To this day, years later, he still stops at the entrance to my place to see if Snickers and I are home.
He has never bite anyone since his rescue. | | Nick Names: | Moose |

| Pet Name: | Reina | | Age: | 3 years | | Gender: | Female | | Breed: | Chihuahua | | Weight: | 5-8 lb | | Sleeping quarters: | Next to me in bed, | | Bio: | Reina was neglected by her owner, and came to me for fostering with a skin condition. Most of the fur on her neck and check was gone. She quickly teased Sinckers into playing around, and the two of them bonded quickly.
Now that's she's in her new home, her fur has returned, and she's happier than ever running around Catalina Island.
Reina is the happy dog resting in the sun (on the left). |

Snickers

Snickers was rescued from the West L.A. Animal Shelter in January 2007. I found this little guy on the Internet, and immediately went to the shelter to see him. I was told he was being kept in a lock-down unit, since he was a nasty biting dog who nobody would want. (They obviously had plans for him). I insisted "LET ME SEE THE DOG," and after much ado they finally escorted me back to death row.
Then I wanted him taken out of the cage and into the yard. Again... "oh we're afraid to handle him." Eventually they removed him from the cage, and I was given only a brief few minutes alone with him in a horrid little yard with one (well used) tree.
He quickly made the most of our time together, but first needed to relieve himself. After doing so, he proceeded to cover the urine with dirt, using his nose. He then sniffed my hand, and that was it - our visit was cut short by the attendant.
I determined that this little guy had quite a personality, and was anything but the nasty attack dog described to me earlier. Thankfully he was available for immediate adoption as I wanted him out ASAP.
I picked him up the next day from the clinic where where had been neutered. Obviously uncomfortable from the procedure he struggled in the seat next to me. Despite what the shelter claimed, I was able to pick him up as I wanted and he never even remotely attempted to bit me. He did have some anti-social behavior towards other dogs which over the next 30 days I was able to work with him on extensively.
One tool I used was taking in Foster Dogs - some biters, and some just abused. Snickers quickly became accustomed to other dogs being around, and has grown to like having Chihuahua friends. He now has a full time girlfriend, and she's another rescue story.
This picture tells it all. Snickers was unfortunately the victim of misunderstanding by his two-legged beings. He is sweet, sensitive, affectionate, funny, but most of all he's happy and balanced. He's really my special little guy.
