Tummy Troubles  5/29/2008 11:28:48 PM
Rico has been sick for a couple months now. We had to take him to emergency care because of constipation but we found out the next day at the vet that his colon was filled with blood and mucous. He's been on antibiotics, steroids, a bland diet, and TLC but it doesn't seem to work. Next week he is going to have an Ultrasound to maybe better diagnose what he has. The vet tends to think it's Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Okay his history is: I got him when he was about 4 weeks old. I was told he was 8 weeks but we had to feed him with a bottle because he couldn't even lap up water. Anyway...later on I found out his mom and all his brothers and sisters died of the Parvo virus. When I had got him, he was having diarrhea, I don't know if it was because of that. I got him vaccinated right at 6 weeks. Well pretty much he vomited yellow bile a lot and he's been on a sensitive stomach diet and Pepcid which has contorlled it now for about a year. Now he is having lower inestinal problems. I just don't know how to help him. Hopefully we can get something done. No amount of money is too much to help him. He is my life and it makes me so sad and upset that he's not even 2 and he's having these problems. If anybody has any advice or knows of anything like this, let me know! Thanks, Rico appreciates it!

Tummy Troubles Are Over....Kind-of!  7/1/2008 12:49:55 AM
So we finally got rid of his infection and all his bowel problems. Come to find out, his anal sacs are filling up within 3-4 weeks. So that was the problem is that the filled up, got infected, caused the constipation, which lead to the backup and infection. Sorry if that's too much info but I just want to let everybody know that if you see your dog rubbing his bottom on the ground a few times, I would have it checked. You don't want what happened to Rico to happen to your pooch!
