We adopted Emmie in October of 2007 after a long, exhaustive search for a border collie. Due to our work hours we needed to make sure that our new addition would be ok without a 'job to do' like most borders require.
Emmie found us actually. We met and spent time with a ton of adorable dogs that were searching for a home, including emmie, and went home to think things through.
We just couldn't get this dog's face and longing out of our minds and called back Monday following our Saturday visit to see if by chance she had found her forever home on Sunday. Our luck, she hadn't.
Long story short, Emmie came home with us the following Wednesday and has basically defined out home ever since. She's the most loving, caring, get-along-with-the-cats sort of dog we could have ever hoped for. In every way, perfect.
We walk every morning and evening, she chases squirrels and lizards but amazingly knows when to reign it back and come sit by my side. I think there's someting so appreciative about an adopted dog. After doing hard time they just seem to know and appreciate the fact that they have found home. Finally.
Emmie is the star of our neighborhood, getting along with kids, dogs and mailmen alike. They all know her. She greets them with snoofs and a long tongue and a smile. Literally. This dog SMILES.
I can't imagine life without her now, and I think that the care and attention she receieved at the Largo center went a long way towards her confindence and all around rebuilding as something worthy.
Thanks SPCA. On both of our behalves. What you do is often thankless but couldn't be more important in reality. These animals not only need, but flat out deserve their big second chance.
